Here is an explanation about some of the equipment the P.I.G.S use on an investigation.
Inferred Cameras
If your looking to buy a camcorder to use for investigations there are several important things
to be aware of to save yourself wasting hundreds of pounds.
Some cameras don’t have night shot or infrared to start with instead have a white light at the front
these will be no good you might as well just have the lights on or use it in the day.
Some achieve night vision by slowing the frames per second and causing more light
exposure per frame, these are not really any good as your recorded image will be blurred and
impossible to use as a mobile camera. So before you buy check the camera has infrared capability to my knowledge the only domestic camcorders that use infrared are Sony ones with 'Night Shot'

Hints and Tips
Remember loads of freshly charged batteries, best place to get extras from in my experience is ebay, also have enough 'new' tapes, never record over tapes as you want your evidence to be without floor and if you have to submit your tape for future examination you probably wont want people having to view what ever you have previously recorded on it.
Night shot uses the infrared bulb at the front of your camera to see in the dark these cameras have a feature called super night shot which then slows the frames down to allow more light per frames but will make images blur also.
Use the camera where possible without the screen being flipped out this will cut down on light pollution and batteries usage.
Avoid using this camera to take still images as the results will be quite poor by comparison to a cheep digital camera.
where possible use headphones this will give you a clear indication of the quality of the audio being recorded by your camera and allows you to make adjustments as you film rather than wishing the sound was better after the event.
