We feel its important to be aware of the environment you are in as this can often attribute to the atmosphere and conditions in which your are investigating. Below are some of the equipment we use to take these measurements and what this data can mean.
Environment Metre

The Environment Metre as its better known can measure sound, light, humidity, and temperature. The beauty of this piece of kit is that it is all in one unit.

out is the location has infra-sound present. Infra-sound can lead to the feeling of paranoia, nausea, and even hallucination depending on the volume and frequency of the presence of the sound you cant hear.
Temperature is taken using an attachable probe which will react to what ever its touching. The best use of this part of the unit is to measure room or air temperature, not surface temperature as the probe is fairly slow to react to change.
Light is measured with the use of another attachable module of course it will measure to 0 (zero) Lux, so if your in the dark it will not be able to measure anything, however it will be able to measure a dimming light for example.
Humidity is measured using the side attached probe, this can have an affect of peoples breathing, for example in a very dry environment not only would you expect dust particles you would also expect people to perhaps cough occasionally, which is useful to know if your collecting EVP etc. Likewise in a moist environment you would expect moisture and perhaps dampness.
Our main use for this is to detect the presence of infra-sound, unfortunately it wont measure the db of infra-sound but will certainly alert you to its presence.

Data Logger

The data logger is an instrument that can be left in a location over a time period of a few hours to a year. This type of data logger will continually take data measurements of Temperature, Humidity and Dew point, Once you have finished your recording of the data you plug it in to |
your computer for data download which will be presented in an active graph that can be time zoomed into for more detailed information.
We use these to see the normal environment of a location over time for example a typical temperature drop at a specific time etc.

Weather Station

The Weather Station is useful because if you have a number of them set up with an incident room or (base room) as its better known, you can see live readings from throughout your location, you can monitor and record temperature variances, humidity changes and of course log the time it |
all happened. There are many models available on the market. We brought ours for around £20 each.
IR Thermometer

This hand held point and shoot devise will give you instant surface temperature on what ever it is pointed at, as such its no good for measuring air temperature but brilliant at measuring surface which can cause convention drafts etc. If a poltaguise decides to through an object it will be the piece of kit you should use to |
measure its temperature however remembering to measure the surface temperature of it from about six inches away as the laser pointer simply tells you where the measurement is being taken from not the area of the measurement. The further away from the target surface you are the bigger the area the unit is measuring (imagine a touch up to a wall, as you move it further away the bigger the illumination gets.
