Team Report

My team consisted of 4 people including myself and our first location was one of the bedrooms on the first floor. During the initial checks, we recorded very high EMF readings in places where we could find no probable cause for them - in the window bay and over the bed. After doing the base checks and entering the room, I got my team to start some deep breathing to help them relax and focus. I was pleasantly surprised that within a few short minutes, some of the group were picking up on strange emotions and feelings. Despite carrying out EVP call-outs, there wasn't any other obvious activity in this room.

Moving to the top floor bedrooms, one of the group felt the presence of a smelly cat! She said she could feel it rubbing against her legs and that it looked like an alley cat. Another group member said that he felt the presence of a woman stood by a fireplace looking at the picture of The Iron Duke (then the Hove Lawns Hotel), when it was gutted by fire. He said that the picture looked like it was alive and there were flames coming out of the windows. We also witnessed that the curtains were moving without any windows being open or any noticable draughts.

In the cellar, we all agreed that we felt very apprehensive and that the area felt oppressive. We carried out the base tests and noted the noise of the water meter behind our group and off the scale EMF readings that again couldn't be explained. Soon we had noises above our heads in response to our call outs, scratches and banging on the ceiling. The noise level increased drastically and then one of the group came off his chair. He was obviously shaken up and said that he felt he'd been pushed. Shortly after, he felt unable to continue and was taken back to our briefing room.

We had various other feelings and noises after the chair incident, group members feeling that they were being pushed or poked, or that they felt cold (as we had our hands joined at the time, we couldn't take any temperature readings), one even felt a sensation of someone rummaging through her handbag! Afterwards she found that the zip to her bag was undone - she insists that she closed it - and that a bingo pen inside her bag had its lid unscrewed and removed.

We continued to ask for sounds or lights and I felt a small object land on my leg and bounce off. As it hit the floor, the group all heard a metallic sound. We asked for another show of activity and both myself and another team member had an unidentified object thrown at us. At this point the group was very shaken up and we agreed to end the session and head back to the briefing room. When we turned on the lights, I tried to discover the identity of the objects thrown, and although I couldn't find anything that looked about the right size for the second, on the floor by my feet was a screw. I examined the screw but could find no plaster or brick dust on it to suggest it had come out of a wall. I looked around above me trying to locate where it could have come from, but couldn't see anywhere where there were either screws or screw holes. Personally, I would assume that was the object that landed on my leg as I could find no other small metal objects in the area.

Arriving at The Iron Duke Hotel in the early evening, we proceeded to finish off our electrical equipment set up that we had started the day before. Around the building we placed several static cameras, a motion sensor camera and temperature sensors. We started our investigation around 11:30 pm after briefing all guests on the location history, investigation methods and the equipment we'd be using.

We decided to break up into three groups and have two P.I.G.S members acting as roaming cameras. Each group was equipped with a thermometer, EVP, EMF and a radio. Due to a mediums previous visit to The Iron Duke in our Pre Investigation phase, we had already listed our target areas of investigation.

On entering each area, the groups performed the base tests (noise check, temperature and EMF readings) and wrote down the results. This was then usually followed by a period of silence to settle in and focus on the surroundings. The groups had one hour in each area and various techniques were used to encourage and promote paranormal activity. During the night, the groups did EVP call-outs, white noise experiments, holding hands to build energy, asking out loud for noises or lights and taking digital photos.

Once the groups had investigated a few locations each, we then brought everybody back together and asked for volunteers to join in with a mediums glass moving, which took place in the bar area . Once the participants felt happy to continue without the medium, she took another group into the cellar to try table tilting. This was very sucessful and we experienced not only rocking from side to side but watched as the table managed to turn in a full circle!

The P.I.G.S packed up and finished off the investigation around 4 am, although some of the guests who attended, stayed on to continue with glass moving.
